The Southern tip of Africa, an area of indescribable beauty and irreplaceable diversity. This small stretch of land and sea in and around Cape Town boasts a surprising variety of life. The unique and exceptionally diverse flora that occurs in this winter-rainfall part of the continent qualifies it as one of the world’s six floral kingdoms, namely the Cape Floral Kingdom.

The Kingdom is only 1/1000 the size of the northern hemisphere’s Boreal Kingdom but more than 70% of the 9600 species that grow here, occur nowhere else on earth. Even though it is the smallest Floral Kingdom (about the size of Portugal) it has more types of indigenous plants than any other similar sized area on Earth. This biodiversity treasure is something that no visitor to the Western Cape can afford to miss!
